Paadri mara – Yellow snake tree

Paadri mara (Stereospermum colais (Dillw.) Mabber) one of the native trees in Kodagu grows  up to 25 m tall. It is a large straight stemmed decidous tree. The outer bark is rough and dark brown with irregular flakes. Flowers are yellow and fruits are in long pods.

Uses

Wood is used in canoes, oars, packing cases, house construction, tea boxes, match boxes, match splints, yokes, shafts, plough, furniture and fancy work. Roots are astringent acrid, appetizer, cardio tonic, aphrodisiac, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, febrifuge, anti-emetic and anti-pyretic.
