Lieutenant General Pattacheruvanda.C. Thimmaiah

Lieutenant General Pattacheruvanda.C. Thimmaiah is from Chettalli in Virajpet Taluk. He has been posted as commander of the Indian Army’s Training Command in Shimla, which is one of the seven commands of the army. He is the third commander from Kodagu to have been appointed to the post. He is the current and the 21st GOC-in-C, Training Command of the Indian Army and assumed office on 1 November 2018.

Education

  • He studied at Sainik School in Bhubaneshwar and later at National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun.

Career

  • He joined the Indian Army on July 31, 1981. He s served on both the Western and Eastern fronts.
  • He commanded a mechanised infantry brigade; a strike RAPID division and X Corps (Bhatinda) (5 July 2017 – 20 July 2018).
  • His staff appointments include Commandant of Army War College, Mhow; and Integrated Army HQ at MoD.
  • He was promoted to Lieutenant General on 5 January 2017.
  • He has also served as a military observer on the UN mission in Angola and as a Defence Attached to Bangladesh.
  • He was the chief of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

Achievements

  • He served as Defence Advisor to Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh
  • ADC to Army Chief, Head of Assam Rifles,
  • Assistant Military Secretary at Indian Army Head Quarters
  • Military Observer in Angola under UN Peace-keeping Force
  • In 2016, he took over the command of Chetak Corps from Lieutenant General Ashwani Kumar.
  • In 2017 he was promoted as the Lt General and was posted as the Additional Director General of Army complaints and Grievances center, New Delhi.

Awards

  • He was awarded “Param Vishisht Seva Medal”(PVSM) for his distinguished service on January 26th, 2019.
