Biddanda Somayya

Biddanda Sommayya was born in the year 1800. He served Kodagu and its kings as army generals or Sarva karyakaras under Chikka Viraraja.

Achievements

Biddanda Sommayya, with his courage and skills rose through ranks and became Commander in chief of the army and served from 1821 to 1834. When the Britishers had taken away Kodagu, Sommayya refused to be in the service and hence retired early. Sommayya had a last wish i.e after his death he should be buried beside his father’s tomb. He died in the year 1879 and as per his last wish, his tomb was erected in the same place.
