Meedhi

Meedhi is the offering made to the ancestors in fulfillment of a vow. 

Ritual

Chicken or pig is sacrificed in front of Kaimada (ancestral shrine) and later on cooked.

A small portion of cooked food is kept for ancestors and later on consumed by all the people gathered for the occasion.

Meedhi is usually offered by each family in their respective Kaimadas. Meedhi Beppo event will be held every year on a particular date/day.

Generally all the family members including thaamane girls will get together on their respective day of meedhi beppo.

This ritual is deeply ingrained in Kodava culture, highlighting the community’s strong emphasis on ancestor worship and veneration of their forebears.
