Kallengada okka

About the okka

The ancestors of Kallengada okka in Beḷḷur were drinking kaḷḷ (toddy) when the king came. So he called them Kallengaḍa. Their ancestors, three ajjas came here to Napoklu from the Kallengada aroḍa in Beḷḷur (Harihara) about 200 years ago carrying a kall boti (stone post), a metal chepp (jewel box) and an arapa kall (grinding stone). They bought land here, built three houses. Although Puthari and Kail Poud are held separately in the three houses (bhagas) here, they get together in this ainmane for Kuḷiyang koḍpa, Pashana-murthik koḍpaa and Panjurḷik koḍpa. They have a joint benefit Fund for all the three bhagas. All the three bhagas in Napoklu and the one in Beḷḷur join together to put up the Kallengada hockey team for the annual inter-okka hockey festival.

The three bhagas in Napoklu have stopped going to the aroḍa in Beḷḷur for karanang koḍpa. Two of the bhagas get together in this ainmane for karaṇang koḍpa and Puthari.
