Neri mara – Jamun

Neri mara (Syzygium cuminii (L.) Skeels) one of the native trees in Kodagu is a large tree which grows  up to 20 m tall.Bark is either grey or brown and irregularly flaky.The inner bark is brownish. flowers are white and the fruit is a berry which is purple and edible.

Uses

Wood is hard and durable, used for making furniture and also as fuel wood. Bark contains tannin used for tanning and dyeing. Fruits are edible; seeds are rich in proteins and good for cattle feed.
