Meenkare (Catunaregam spinosa( Thunb.) Tirveng) one of the native trees in kodagu grows up to 4m tall. It is usually found in hilly areas.Flowers are Iin axillary fascicles or solitary which is white and later turns yellow in colour.

The flowers and fruits are edible. Flowers are used as bee pasture in apiculture and in perfumery.
