Lakkote pan mara -Japanese medlar

Lakkote pan mara (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl) one of the native trees in Kodagu grows to 5–10 metres tall.It is a large evergreen shrub or tree, grown commercially for its yellow fruit,with a rounded crown, short trunk and woolly new twigs, it is  also cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Uses

Wood is used as fuel wood. Fruits are edible, used in preparation of jam, jelly, sauce and alcoholic drink.The loquat has a high sugar, acid, and pectin content.It is eaten as a fresh fruit and mixes well with other fruits in fresh fruit .  in light syrup. Firm, slightly immature fruits are best for making pies or tarts. syrup is used in Chinese medicine for soothing the throat and is a popular ingredient for cough drops.
