About

Seethalaxmi hails from a family firmly rooted in South Indian classical music and dance. With her mother Poovamma Aiyappa (Dr. Pandanda Belliappa’s daughter) and mother’s family residing in Chennai, the family took to learning various instruments like the Violin, Flute, Piano, Veena and Vocals alongside. Seethalaxmi’s childhood and growing up years were steeped in music, as she participated in various vocal music competitions and won trophies during her school years in St. Joseph’s Convent and Central High School, Madikeri. She continued to win accolades for vocal music during college days at the Government Pre-University College, Madikeri, and later at Queen Mary’s College, Chennai, where she majored in Music for her undergraduate degree. Seethalaxmi Appaya has released a CD for Late Ambale Subba Rao in which Haradasa Appaneravanda Appacha Kavi's songs are recorded. She has actively participated in musical concerts and collaborations with her siblings. In fact, her sister Monnanda Shobha Subbaiah has released a CD of her Kodava Keerthanas, for which she has sung several songs. She firmly believes that fine arts are the fundamentals of creativity, and with this in mind, Seethalaxmi spends her spare time today, training little children to sing in the schools around where she lives in Kodagu.
