Garike mara – Liliac neem

Garike mara (Meliaazadiracta L.) one of the native trees in Kodagu is a medium sized deciduous trees which grows up to 16 m tall. Bark is smooth and greenish brown when young and turns grey and fissured with age.It is typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions.

Uses

Leaves are rich source of nutrients and hence used for feeding cattle. Wood is used to manufacture agricultural implements, furniture, plywood, boxes, poles, tool handles. It is used in cabinet making and in construction because of its resistance to termites. This tree is an important source of fuel wood having high calorific value.
