The mulberry makes an attractive tree which will bear fruit while still small and young. The fruit is not a berry but a collective fruit, in appearance like a swollen loganberry. Ultimately they become completely altered in texture and colour, becoming succulent, fat and full of juice and are generally very sweet. In most species the fruits turn pink and then red while ripening, then dark purple or black, and have a sweet flavour when fully ripe.
