Chemeen Curry
Chemeen is a delicious Kodava recipe served as a Curry or fry which is common during monsoon season.
Ingredients
- Chemeen-Prawn/shrimp – 1kg
- Onion -2(chopped)
- Ginger fresh-2 inches
- Garlic – 10 pods
- Green chillies -4
- Coriander powder- 2tsp
- Jeera powder-1/2 tsp
- Red chillies- 10
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
- Tomato -1
- Salt
- Pinch of sugar
- Lime or Kachimpulli
- Coconut milk-250ml
- A few Cashewnuts
- Oil
Method
- Grind ginger and garlic to a fine paste.
- Marinate the Chemeen with salt and turmeric and leave it aside for ½ an hour.
- Fry red chilies, half of the chopped onion, chopped tomato, cashew nuts and grind to a paste.
- Heat a little oil in a pan and add the other half of the onions, curry leaves and fry till it turns golden brown.
- Add the ginger garlic paste, ground mixture and cook for a few minutes.
- Add coriander powder, jeera powder, and green chillies and let it cook till the oil comes out. Then add the coconut milk, pinch of sugar, Chemeen and add a little water and let it cook for about 15 minutes.
- After the Chemeen is cooked add kachimpuli and let it boil for a few minutes and turn off the heat.

Best enjoyed with rice and Akki ooti
