Boverianda Okka

About the Okka

About 500 years ago, Boverianda Okka came from Kabbe hill and settled in Nariandada Village and was the first okka to settle. They have about 1000 bhattis of wetland and 1000 acres of bane land here.

Ages ago when the worship had stopped at Peyyavur, Ishwara came to Kodagu looking for rice for his temple. He met Boverianda Karanava on his way and the Karanava promised to offer rice every year to the Peyyavur temple. After this incident, Boverianda Okka became the foremost thakka at Peyyavur temple; and every year rice is taken on oxen walking about 30 to 40 Kms route across Kabbe hill for three nights and two days.

Once when Kodagu was hit by severe drought the King ordered that no paddy should be given to Kerala. But Boverianda ancestor requested the king to offer rice to Peyyavur. The king agreed on one condition that he should prove the truth of his god by causing it to rain. When this ancestor started praying it started pouring heavily, convinced by the power of god raja gifted this okka about 5000 acres of Male Kaad.

Once when all the Boverianda men were away for war, the annual ritual of sending rice to Peyyavur had to be continued; a women from this okka loaded oxe with rice sacks and prayed to god asking him to guide it; she let the cow go from back of the house. The oxe went all by itself, faced tiger attack and reached and returned back with prasada from the temple. After this event akki eth por starts from back of the house. After this incident, the hill where battle was fought between tiger and oxe is called by the name Choma Kund.
