Bollepanda/Bolleyapanda okka

About the Okka

Bollepanda/Bolleyapanda

Once, when Karaṇava Boḷuka went hunting, he shot a tiger with his gun. The tiger was injured, but not killed. Enraged, it attacked Boḷuka who wrestled with it and killed it with his bare hands..

Their ajjas (fore-fathers) bought land here from patta (brahmins) in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

There were four brothers in the okka – Boḷuka, Uthayya, Mandaṇṇa and the youngest brother (do not know his name). Boḷuka never married. Mandaṇṇa was the one who built this ainmané. Uthayya built an ainmane in their koppa, close to this ainmane. The youngest brother did not build an ainmane. The okka now has three kuthis (bhagas), descendants of Mandaṇṇa (Boḷḷepanḍa -1), Uthayya (Boḷḷepanḍa -2) and the youngest brother. But effectively there are only two kuthis since the third branch has only one man left.

The kuthis have a common pattedara and common thutengaḷa; they observe mutual pole-thale. But they celebrate all the festivals separately,

An ajja from here maṇṇk nindiya the last girl left in the Katranḍa okka (now extinct) in Botoḷi. Intitially his descendants were called Katranḍa. Now they call themselves Boḷḷepanḍa/Boḷḷyappanḍa. The branches of the Boḷḷepanḍa okka in Beth have no pole-thale with the Boḷḷyappanḍa okka, but they have not inter-married. Starting with the inter-okka hockey tournament in 2003, the Boḷḷyappanḍa okka has joined with the Boḷḷepanḍa okkas to field a joint Boḷḷepanḍa hockey team

This okka was started by an ajja of the BoỊỊepanḍa-1 okka in Beth who mannk nindiya the last lady, a widow left in the Katranḍa okka (now extinct) in Botoḷi. Until recently his descendants were called Katranḍa. Now they call themselves Boḷḷepanḍa/Boḷḷyappanḍa. This is Katranḍa mann.

This okka has three bhagas – BoỊỊepanḍa -1 & 2 in Beth and this one, Bollepanḍa/Boḷḷyappanḍa -3. They all join to field a hockey team for the Inter-okka Hockey tournament (since 2003). Although this bhaga has no mutual pole-thale with the two bhagas in Beth, they have not intermarried with them.
