Bhayya mara – Indian Willow

Bhayya mara (Salix tetrasperma Roxb.) one of the native trees in Kodagu which grows up to 7 m tall. It is  commonly called Indian willow, is a medium-sized tree which grows on wet swampy places, shedding its leaves at the end of monsoon season.

Uses

The wood is quite soft, used for making cabinets, furniture, pencils and cricket equipments. Also credited with medicinal properties and yields a good quality timber and tannin useful in industrial applications.
