Amme pann mara – Ceylon box wood

Amme pann (Canthium dicoccum) one of the native trees in Kodagu is found in Western Ghats of India. Trees grow up to 10 m, leaves are lance-shaped, with the broad end at the top, smooth,  sides curving inward, toward the tip, and then tapering to a fine point on the leaf apex, truncate at base. The plants are common in dry-deciduous forests

Uses

Fruits are edible.Plant possesses antipyretic activity. The bark is used as febrifuge and also applied as plasters. The decoction of roots is used internally for treating diarrhoea. Bark powder boiled with sesame oil isused externally for rheumatic pains.
