This is a Kodava war knife with a broad blade which was used during battle. It is the sword of the Kodavas.

About

The large well forged blade is sharp on the concave side, and the base of the blade is very thick. The handle is made from two pieces of horn.

It is now used for ceremonial purposes only. The Odi Kathi is used to chop down banana stumps at wedding ceremonies in a show of strength. It is fixed to the thodang at the back of the waist. with a chain (chengolae) tied to the groom’s waist.
