Baage mara – Sizzling tree

Baage mara(Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth.) one of the native trees in Kodagu  is a deciduous tree which grows up to 25 m tall. It has grey violet bark,rusty brown breathing pores,rough and fissured. Flowers appear shortly after new leaves and white and heavily scented.

Uses

The leaves are reported to be good fodder for cattle and livestock. It is an excellent fuel wood species with a calorific value of 5200 kcal/g and yields good charcoal. The wood seasons well, works and polishes easily, can be used for interior moulding, parquet, furniture, panelling, turnery and general construction. It is also used for making handles of agricultural implements.
