• Chondu hailed from Ammathi-Nad. During the Raja’s time in the 17th century, he went round Coorg obtaining gifts from all the temples or temple chiefs. Later he was met by an opponent known As Kayyendira Appayya. Both these men were great heroes of the time and they subdued or defeated a number of local chiefs, and finally Chondu himself was killed by Appayya. There are folk songs and ballads in honour of Chondu also. They fought eachother in a deadly game called Oththé Poith.
