Long before the formal establishment of the British Indian Army, Kodava ancestors served in various military formations, including the Mysore State Force, where they were known as <em data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"493\">Y Cadets and <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/the-coorg-regiment\/\">Coorg Regiment <\/a><\/em>. Their strong presence in India\u2019s defence services has continued across generations and remains widely recognised.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"845\">Kodavas have also played a distinguished role in global conflicts. Many Kodava soldiers participated in <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/world-war-ii-veterans-from-kodagu\/\">World War I and World War II<\/a>, with several earning high honours such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/military-cross-mc\/\"><strong data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"808\">Military Cross<\/strong> <\/a>for exceptional bravery and service.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"1133\">Today, more than 200 Kodava defence personnel\u2014retired and serving\u2014are documented across the Indian Army, <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/navy-officers\/\">Navy <\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/air-force-officers\/\">Airforce<\/a>.
