About the okka<\/a><\/h3>\n

It is said that an early ancestor of Channira\/Chennira okka<\/a> was called Chenni, hence their name is Chennira.<\/p>\n

They do not know where they came from. Long ago, they had an ainmane<\/a> in Pan\u1e0dot, about 2 kms to the west of Nangala. When many in the okka<\/a> and village died in the plague epidemic of the mid 1880s the few members of the Chennira okka<\/a> who survived the epidemic, vacated the house and left the village, along with the survivors of the Chotteman\u1e0da, Gu\u1e0d\u1e0dan\u1e0da and Boppan\u1e0da<\/a> okkas<\/a>. All the survivors stayed together for some time in Pa\u1e37eyamane thare at the top of the slope, and cultivated their fields. When their numbers increased, these four okkas<\/a> built their own separate ainmanes<\/a> in Nangala. (Chotteman\u1e0da and Boppan\u1e0da<\/a> okkas no longer have ainmanes<\/a> in Nangala).<\/p>\n
