The blade is sharp on the concave side, while the base is particularly thick, giving the weapon its characteristic strength and weight.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"1391\">The handle is traditionally made from two pieces of horn. The Odi Kathi was historically carried as a weapon during warfare. Today, its principal role is ceremonial. During a Kodava wedding, the groom wears the Odi Kathi at the back of his waist, secured in a <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/thodang\/\">Thodang<\/a>, with a chain called the <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/are-changole\/\">Chengolae<\/a>\u00a0attached to the groom&#8217;s waist. It is also traditionally used to chop down a banana stump during the wedding ceremony, symbolising strength.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"am0wo3\" data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1864\"><strong>Traditional Use<\/strong>\n<ul data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"1864\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1dhb4ji\" data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"1462\">Used as a war knife during battle<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"11qfx1k\" data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1534\">Traditionally carried as part of the Kodava man&#8217;s martial attire<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1izn37i\" data-start=\"1538\" data-end=\"1597\">Worn by the groom during traditional wedding ceremonies<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"7173s9\" data-start=\"1601\" data-end=\"1700\">Used to chop down a banana stump during the wedding ceremony as a demonstration of strength<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"fl6f6u\" data-start=\"1704\" data-end=\"1864\">Used in traditional Kathi-aat, where Kodava men perform a sword-fighting dance using the Odi Kathi and Peeche Kathi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ixzm1z\" data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"2470\">\n<p data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"2247\"><strong>Cultural Significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"2247\">The Odi Kathi is one of the strongest symbols of Kodava martial heritage and identity.
