It is particularly associated with the Kodava bride during the wedding ceremony.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"lns5wq\" data-start=\"628\" data-end=\"1240\"><strong data-start=\"631\" data-end=\"651\">Full Description<\/strong><br data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"654\" \/>Thombda is a round pad made from soft material and designed to provide <strong data-start=\"728\" data-end=\"794\">grip, cushioning and support on the head while carrying a load<\/strong>. It is commonly associated with the Kodava bride during the <a href=\"https:\/\/kodavaclan.com\/kodaguheritage\/mangala-padathi\/\">Kodava wedding<\/a> ceremony, particularly during <strong data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"907\">Ganga Puja<\/strong>, when the bride carries water on her head. Thombda is decorated with beads and thread work, giving it an attractive ceremonial appearance. It is also used while carrying <strong data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1088\">poliya<\/strong> and during <strong data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1114\">Ari Kadtho<\/strong> in the harvest season. Its continued association with harvest activities also reflects the connection between <strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1920\">Kodava wedding traditions, agriculture and everyday rural life<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ckoyp4\" data-start=\"1961\" data-end=\"2374\"><strong data-start=\"1965\" data-end=\"1987\">Historical Context<\/strong><br data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"1990\" \/>Thombda belongs to the traditional material culture of Kodagu and reflects an older practice in which soft, locally made head supports were used to make carrying loads more comfortable.
