Schools and Educational Institutions Built on Land Donated by Kodavas<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Education has played an important role in the social development of Kodagu. From the 19th century onwards, Kodava families, individuals and community leaders contributed land, buildings, funds, teacher support and other resources towards establishing and sustaining educational institutions.For many families, such contributions were more than charitable acts. They reflected a wider tradition of using ancestral resources for the benefit of the community and future generations.<\/p>\n

  1. Mercara Central School, Madikeri\n
      \n
    1. One of the earliest documented examples dates to 1862, when a group of 65 Coorg headmen and officials petitioned for the establishment of an English school at Madikeri. Kodava officials and pensioners contributed towards its construction, with records stating that \u20b99,721 was contributed by Kodavas, while the government provided the balance.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    2. Kodagu Vidyalaya , Madikeri\n
        \n
      1. Codanda D. Bopaiah and Codanda B. Devaiah donated approximately 8 acres of land for the establishment of Kodagu Vidyalaya.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      2. Nethaji High School, Ballamavati\n
          \n
        1. The Chengetira family is recorded as having donated approximately 10 acres of land for Nethaji High School at Ballamavati.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        2. GMP School, Nelji\u2013Peroor\n
            \n
          1. The Paleyada and Mekmaniyanda families are recorded as having donated the land for the GMP School at Nelji\/Peroor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          2. Rama Trust Napoklu\n
              \n
            1. The Biddatanda family is recorded as having contributed land to the Rama Trust and Government Hospital at Napoklu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            2. Lower Primary school at Kikkaralli village,\u00a0 Surlabi<\/span>\n
                \n
              1. The land for the school was donated by the Kannikanda Vakka, while Shri Kochera Aiyanna constructed the school building.<\/li>\n
              2. Shri Kochera Aiyanna went beyond the construction of the school. At a time when teachers from outside the area were reluctant to work in the remote village, he is remembered as having personally paid the teachers’ salaries and provided accommodation for them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
              3. Ponnampet Govt. Higher Model Primary School\n

                    1. Alemangada Muthanna donated 2 acres of land.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                    2. Nariandada Central High School, Cheyandan<\/a>e\n

                      1. Boverianda family donated land<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                      2. Lourdes Convent, in Pollibetta.\n

                          1. Land of 2.5 acres was donated by kotera family<\/li>\n
