Thirola<\/span><\/h1>\n

\u201cOork oru Maadeva, Kerik oru Aiyappa, Vodek oru Naatha, Oonik oru Poodha, Vokkak oru Guru, Karona Pinja Kuliya\u201d<\/em> \u2014 these are regarded as the traditional guardians of the Kodava people.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Kodagu, the belief in guardian spirits entering the bodies of human beings is an important part of traditional spiritual practice. These spirits are believed to bring positive energy and provide guidance to the community. At certain intervals, people invite these guardian spirits to appear and seek their guidance on matters concerning the community and individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n

This traditional practice is known as Thirola Bappo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thirola Sthana<\/span><\/h2>\n

Traditionally, almost every village had its own Sthana, a designated sacred location where the spirits were invoked. In earlier times, these places were often associated with a tree that was considered suitable for the presence of the deity or guardian spirit.or a thare <\/em><\/a>was built as mark of location<\/span><\/p>\n

Over time, many of these traditional Sthanas became associated with or incorporated into local Bhagavathi or Aiyappa temples.<\/span><\/p>\n

The practice therefore represents a traditional form of spiritual guidance in which the guardian deities are invoked and their presence is sought by members of the community.<\/span><\/p>\n
