Thelapanda (Pattamada)Radhika Poovayya born in 1964 is a Speech Pathologist and a US Board Certified Behaviour Analyst.  She was selected as an Emerging Icon in Healthcare-2019 by Times Group .She is the founder Director, Samvaad institute of Speech and Hearing Samvaad, centers for speech therapy and ABA based therapy.

Achievements

  • On getting a merit seat in the prestigious All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore she completed her Master’s in 1987. She started the first rehabilitation centre in a plantation setup in the TATA Tea hospital.
  • She worked in different institutions and hospitals like, Hosmat and Manipal before starting the first private speech therapy clinic in Bangalore.
  • Radhika started Samvaad Institute of Speech and Hearing, Hebbal, Bangalore, a college which offers bachelor degree and postgraduate degree in speech language pathology and audiology affiliated to Bangalore University. With the aim to provide world class therapy for children with Autism, she did her master’s in behaviour analysis, the gold standard in the treatment of children with Autism from Florida University, USA to get a certification from the US board of behavior analyst. She is the first professional in India with the dual degree of speech language pathology and behavior analysis. She has presented many papers in national and international conferences and has also been a guest speaker.
  • Radhika has worked to increase public awareness on the speech and hearing disabilities in different forums. She has organized two dance programs by children with disabilities in Chowdaiah memorial hall. She conducts walkathons and campaigns to dispel myths about disability.
  • Radhika is involved in raising funds for children from low socioeconomic backgrounds for a cochlear implant. At her institute, she offers free speech therapy for stroke patients and for children with Autism & hearing impairments for families from low socioeconomic. She has been awarded the community service award by Bangalore Rotary Club.
  • Presently, she has 3 therapy centers in Bangalore (one each Indiranagar, Marathahalli & Hebbal) and one international centre in Cambodia. She also consults at Cloud Nine Hospital, Old Airport Road.
  • She cares deeply for people with communication disabilities and have spent the last 30 years in understanding the science of speech pathology and horning her skills as a speech-language pathologist, in 2003 she was introduced to the science of applied behaviour analysis by a parent of a child with autism. From then her life was directed towards mastering the science and completing her master’s from the USA.
  • She is proud to run a training institute and 4 clinics in Bangalore, where she nurture students to become committed professionals and be useful to society. At her clinics, they are committed to providing therapy based on the best practices in the field. They also believe in empowering parents with knowledge and skills.
