Puttichanda Okka

About the Okka

During the rule of Lingaraja in the 18th century, Puttichanda Okka which was staying in Rangasamudra near Kushalnagar opposed him and hence he got all of them killed. Somehow two sisters from the Okka escaped the massacre. They walked bare foot carrying the Jewellary they had. After seeing the Paddy ears filled with rice in a neglected field in Bollarimad they thought that it would be a right decision to settle in that brave soil. Eventually, they also bought around 300 Bhatti of Ungumanda land and built a simple hut out of bamboo slats.

Intermarriage

After a few years they started looking for a person to get married so that the Okka name will be carried. Meanwhile when they couldn’t find anyone, they decided to ask Kodira Arjun who had helped them to cultivate the land. Though Arjun was married he decided to marry them according to Okka Paraje. These sisters had 7 children and are considered as the ancestors of Puttichanda Okka. Hence the members of Puttichanda Okka do not inter marry with Kodira Okka.
