Nell

Nell

Nell is referred to Paddy. Once the ummi and thoud are removed, it becomes rice.

About

Each Nell has many layers, the outermost layer is called Ummi and the inner part is composed of thoud and rice. One grain of Nell consists of one rice kernel.

Paddy is cultivated in the southern and eastern Asia and is grown in the flooded land with water more than 50cm deep.

Five different types of work are carried out in the paddy fields during rainy season; this is usually termed as ‘Aipani’ in Kodava language.

In Coorg, many paddy fields are flooded by water during monsoon, while few are irrigated.
