Muckatira Shilpa Nanjappa

Muckatira Shilpa Nanjappa from Kodagu is an established artist of Bharatanatyam and is one of the most sought after dancers of her generation in India. Having trained under the illustrious Guru late Padmini Ramachandran of Bengaluru for over 2 decades, Shilpa has to her credit over 200 solo performances worldwide.

Achievements

  • Blessed with an expressive face and an agile body, Shilpa has garnered appreciation for her soul stirring performances from critics and audiences alike.
  • She is an ‘A’ grade artist of the national government’s Doordarshan and is an Empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
  • She has travelled to Maldives through the ICCR and performed solo amidst the President and first lady of Maldives during the India-Maldives Friendship Week, 2009.
  • She represented India and conducted workshops on “Indian Classical Dance-Bharatnatyam” and performed solo at “One World-2006” organized by World Youth Citizens at Karlsruhe, Germany.
  • She is the Chief Editor of ‘Nrithyam’- an annual dance Magazine.
  • Shilpa  ontinues to work in Choreography, teaches advanced classes in Bengaluru and performs at some of the most prestigious platforms of the country and abroad.
  • The fellowship is awarded to only 200 artists across India and includes all art fields like dance, music, sculpture, literature, photography, video graphics etc only 6Bharathnatyam artistes qualified for this honour across the country and Shilpa had the distinction of being the only one from Karnataka.
  • She chose to do extensive research on Adapation of Kodava compositions(existing and new) into the classical music format and Bharathanatyam.

Awards

  • She was awarded a prestigious fellowship by the Indian Governments Centre for Cultural Resources and Training(CCRT)for 2019-21 on being an outstanding artiste in Bharathnatyam.
