Mookonda Kushalappa Ganapathy is a retired police officer who was born in Mundoni-Bilugunda (in Ammathi naad, Virajpet Taluk), Kodagu.

  • He completed his early education from Ammathi High School and earned a degree in Bachelor of Science from Government College (now Field Marshal Cariappa College) in Madikeri. He did his LLB from Renukarcharya College, Bangalore.

Career

  • He joined the police department as police sub-inspector in the year 1971. After the training at Police Training College in Mysore, he was posted to Bangalore City. He started his career in Vyalikval police station and subsequently worked in Upparpet, Fraser Town and Srirampuram police stations.

Achievements

  • In 1983, he was promoted as Police Inspector and worked as CI in Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur, Sheshadripuram and JC Nagar sub divisions. Thereafter,he also worked in CID and State Intelligence wings of the police department. 
  • In the year 1986, he headed an anti rowdy squad to nab the then notorious rowdies Kotwal Ramachandra, Jayaraj and their associates. 
  • In the year 1991, when language riots broke out in parts of Bangalore due to Cauvery water dispute, he was specially posted to Srirampuram, the hot bed of violence.
  • When he was posted to State Intelligence, in the year 1995, he investigated a case of an International terrorist who had gained illegal entry into the country. This terrorist was involved in several cases of murders, extortion and robberies in many countries. 
  • In the year 1997, he was promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (equivalent to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police) and posted to Channapatna Sub division, Bangalore Rural District. Thereafter he was posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police to Fraser Town Sub-division, Bangalore City.
  • In 2002, he was posted to Central Crime Branch (CCB) where he was a member of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) established to investigate the fake stamp scam of Abdul Karim Telgi. As the investigating officer, he successfully investigated the case which ended in the conviction of Telgi and his associates, who were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
  • In 2004 he was promoted as Superintendent of Police and posted to State Intelligence, Bangalore. He retired from police service in 2008.

Awards

  • Recipient of the Chief Minister’s medal twice (in 1983 and 1996)
  • Recipient of the President’s Medal -in 1993 for meritorious service ,in 2001 for distinguished service
