Career

  • He started his career with the Canadian multinational, Alcan and worked in various functions ranging from product development, production planning, business development and Sales & Marketing in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore & New Delhi.

Achievements

  • He worked on a strategic project for Alcan, Canada in Montreal. In the year 2000, Mr Appaiah became part of the Aditya Birla Group based in Mumbai and was responsible for the Alumina chemicals export business. In this responsibility, he was in charge of business in 35 countries.
  • Appaiah assumed the role of Managing Director, of Wienerberger, (an Austrian brick maker which is the world’s largest producer of bricks, and number one on the clay roof tile market in Europe) India in July 2010.
  • Apart from spearheading the Indian operations for Wienerberger, he created a market for sustainable, light weight building materials in India, develop awareness for the Indian consumers in green, sustainable construction processes; introduce, alternative, renewable energy concepts & technology in the field of manufacturing building materials.
  • He has been associated with multinational manufacturing giants like Rio Tinto Alcan (formerly known as Alcan Aluminum Limited), and the Aditya Birla Group. With Alcan he worked in various functions ranging from product development, production planning, business development, Sales & Marketing. At Aditya Birla Group he was heading the Alumina c export business, with presence in 35 countries.
