Achievements

  • He was a member of Indian hockey squad in many international games, including the team that won the Gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games.
  • Somaya also played two Olympic Games, The 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games, and 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games.
  • He was the captain of the 1988 Olympics team and was placed in 6th position.

Awards

  • In 2007 Somaya was awarded the Life Time Achievement award by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.
  • He is also a recipient of Arjuna Award

  • Served with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd for over three decades and retired as an Executive Director
