About

“Koramba Kode / Kori kode” is referred to a device like umbrella placed on one’s head to protect against rain; and were commonly used in the ancient days.

Uses

Koramba kode covers the persons head and back; and is made from reed or bamboo splint woven with leaves.

The outer layer is formed in large hexagons and the splits are folded back at the edge. They are still used in few regions like Chirapunji, which receives world’s heaviest rainfall. Koramba kode helps people to keep their hands free while working on steep hill slopes.

Few Variants are still in use in some areas, although it has been largely replaced today in modern houses by more contemporary  materials like Plastic
