Koothanda M Chengappa
Koothanda M Chengappa a sportsperson from Kodagu was a former international hockey player. He was Captain of services and coach of MEG. He was one of the finest center forwards of Madras Engineers Group. He was known for his scoring ability. He was instrumental in the MEG hockey team winning several titles in the state and other parts of the country.
Achievements
- He represented junior India in Hockey in 1978-79.
- He represented Karnataka as well as service teams in the National Championships
- He also represented the Indian junior team that toured Europe in 1975 and scored 19 out of the 37 goals tallied by India.
- He attended a number of National camps and played a test series against Pakistan in 1976.
- After his playing career he took coaching after securing a diploma from NIS, SAI Bangalore
- He was the coach of MEG and services teams until he retired.
- His achievements in sports were recognized by MEG who conferred him with the rank of Hon.Captain before his retirement.
