Konganda okka
About the okka
Karanava Govindayya, after marrying a Kongaḷva girl named Kaḷamma, established a lineage known as Konganḍa. These Kongaḷva rulers governed Koḍagu as vassals under the Chola and Hoysaḷa dynasties from approximately 1004 to 1175.
The primary residence ( ainmane )of the Konganda okka is situated in Rudraguppe. Similar dwellings (ajja kettna mane) were constructed by six bhagas in Maḍikeri, Kanḍangala, Mayamuḍi, Goḍi, Baṇe bel, and Ogge. Interestingly, none of these houses have kaimaḍas, and all members converge at Rudraguppe for the Karanang kodpa.
A notable friendship existed between the Konganḍa karanava and the Kokkera karanava. When the Konganḍa karanava faced challenges from the Boḷḷaḍichanḍa karanava and left for Piriyapatna, it was the Kokkera karanava who intervened and successfully brought him back home. In commemoration of this event, the Konganḍa okka presents an eḍe to the Kokkera karanava, reciprocated by the Kokkera okka offering an eḍe to the Konganḍa karanava during theKaranang kodpa. ceremony.
