Kalengada Muthanna Cariappa
Kalengada Muthanna Cariappa from Kodagu is among the 11 personnel of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to be conferred with the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He received the President Police Medal from Shri Kiren Rijju, Union Home Minister of state for Home during the Sashastra Seema Bai’s Anniversary Day Investiture Ceremony in New Delhi on 24th December 2018.

- Cariappa completed his graduation from Railway Degree College in Secunderabad,
- Post Graduation and M Phil from Bangalore University and
- He did his PG Diploma in Public Relations from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
- He also specialised in the study of Human behaviour from the shape of the cranium
Achievements
- Cariappa has an entry into the Limca Book Records for carving a 3mm elephant in chalk. He has also carved elephants in 2mm and 1.5 millimetres and intends to be in the Record Books again.
- Cariappa served in the 90000 strong elite Border Guarding force which assigned the task of Border Management of Indo-Nepal and Indo Butan Borders.
- He has several publications to his credit. Earlier in 2010,
- Cariappa, an assistant director, received the award on Republic Day for his work in public relations and perception management.
- He is a civilian officer in the SSB, which is mandated to guard the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders.
In the past two decades, he has enabled the force to nurture a good relationship with the people of border areas. - He facilitates and oversees perception management work across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

He retired on 31st May 2018. The award is a recognition of his exceptional services in the spheres of Organizational history, Publicity, Public Relations, Perception Management and Border Management
