Kabbachira okka

About the Okka

Kabbachira okka’s karanava Bollu ajja had only one daughter. When Peggaḷa Ishwara (Sarthavu) came here disguised as a mendicant, she gave him milk instead of water to drink. Sarthavu was pleased with the girl and suggested that the only boy left in the Maneyatanḍa okka (that was nearby) marry her according to the okka paraje custom. Hence they have two karanavas – Bollu ajja and the Maneyatanḍa ajja.

When the Maneyatanḍa boy married the Kabbachira girl, he took the Kabbachira mane peda. The Maneyatanḍa okka became extinct, and Maneyatanḍa land came to the Kabbachira okka.

They have four kades in Arji, which has one ainmane. One young man of this okka has built a mund mane in Gonicoppa which is not an ainmane

There are pits covered by stone slabs in their land, where they used to hide during wars in the olden days. Some of their dead were buried there. They still find old cinder in the pits.

The Raja used to throw silver coins while giving audience in his palace in Madikeri. Once, when karanava Bollu ajja was there, a silver coin fell on his manḍe thuṇi, and he gave it back to the king. Pleased with his honesty, the king gave him the land as umbaḷi.
