Jammada Preeth Appaiah (Thaamane Kunjiyanda) is an eminent Kodavathi, distinguished as both a mountaineer and a sports shooter from Kodagu. A resident of Bannimantap, Mysuru, she embodies the spirit of resilience, discipline, and quiet determination associated with the Kodava community. She is widely recognised for her successful ascents of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus, two of the world’s most challenging peaks, demonstrating exceptional physical endurance and mental strength. Alongside mountaineering, her achievements in sports shooting reflect precision, focus, and commitment. Through her pursuits, she continues to inspire young Kodavas, especially women, to explore excellence in adventure sports and competitive disciplines while remaining rooted in cultural pride.

Achievements

Mountaineering accomplishments

  • Mount Kilimanjaro: on March 8th 2023, Preeth climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. She reached the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres (19,340 feet). 
  • Mount Elbrus: on  August 15th 2024, Preeth climbed Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe. She was a part of an eleven member expedition team and completed the climb in 7 hours and 20 minutes.

Shooting achievements

  • 12th Karnataka Shooting Competition and Championship-2024: She won a bronze medal in the Women’s Masters Category.
  • 2nd Nagraj Rao Jagdale Shooting Contest and Championship-2025: She won silver medal in the Senior Master’s Women’s Category.
  • Gold Medals in two different categories – Master Women and Senior Master Women – at the 3rd Nagaraja Rao Jagdale Shooting Competition  Championship 2026,
  • Gold Medal at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Shooting Range, Bangalore. February 2026,
