Maha Vir Chakra

About

The Maha Vir Chakra is the second highest military decoration, given to the act of braveness performed during war. It can be awarded to anyone from the services who shows exceptional act of valor in the face of enemy. More than 155 acts of bravery and selfless courage have been recognized since the inception of the medal.

Vir Chakra

About

This is also awarded for bravery in the battleground. It is third in preference after the Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra. It is also given to anyone from the services that have performed an act of valour and sacrifice in the face of enemy.

Established by the President of India on 26 January 1950 (with effect from 15 August 1947). The statutes were amended 12 January 1952 to readjust the order of wearing as new decorations were established.

Shaurya Chakra

About

Initially called as the “Ashoka Chakra, Class III” by the President of India, The statutes were revised and the decoration renamed  as Shaurya Chakra are recognized by a bar to the medal ribbon (to date five have been awarded)
