Elthanda Okka
About the Okka
The ancestors of this Okka knew how to write and used to assist king’s men in writing down the names. So they were called the Okka of Elthkara which eventually became Elthanda.
Intermarriage
Elthanda Okka used to go to Peyyavur Temple festival every year with Eth Por. One day they had bull fight with Battakalanda of Kunjalgeri and defeated their bull.
Infuriated by this the Battakalanda man killed Elthanda bull.
In revenge, an angered Elthanda man killed Battakalanda man on the day of Puthari. Ever since then Battakalanda people cut Kadh after their puthari meal.
Elthanda people keep kupadi on the spot where their ox was killed and buried. For several years these two okkas never visited Peyyavur with ox.
Because of all these conflicts they do not intermarry.
