Thelapanda E Appaiah(Shambu) a sportsperson was born on 3 August, 1940. He was a true champion right from his school days. He was encouraged by his teacher B C Aiyappa to run in his school championships.

Achievements
- He won several District, Zonal (Mysore), and State (Mysore) medals in 400m barefoot running.
- Eighteen years later, in 1958, he was among the chosen three from Napoklu to represent Mysore state in the All India Athletic Meet held in Delhi.
- In his later years, he even represented the University of Mysore in several Inter-university championships that were held in Mumbai, Jaipur, and Trivandrum.
- He won many accolades for his Paddy and Cardamom crops. For many years in a row he stood first in Taluk level paddy competition.
- He was elected to Karugunda VSSN as President twice and was very active in Politics too.
