Dr. Chengappa Munjandira is a senior technologist specializing in advanced networking, cloud-native infrastructure, 5G systems, virtualization, and emerging communication technologies. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the IEEE Bangalore Section and Vice Chair for Industry Relations at the IEEE India Council.
Within IEEE, he has held several leadership roles, including Honorary Secretary of the IEEE Bangalore Section (2022–2023), Vice Chair – Industry and Open / IEEE Standards (2024), and Vice Chair – Technical Activities (2025). In December 2025, he was elected Chair-Elect of the IEEE Bangalore Section. His work has emphasized collaboration between academia, industry, startups, MSMEs, and government stakeholders.
He has also served as Technical Lead for IEEE MOVE India, contributing to humanitarian technology initiatives, disaster-relief innovation, emergency communications, and STEM outreach programs across India.
Academic roles and governance
In 2025, Dr. Munjandira was appointed as a Member of the 9th Academic Senate of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, following a notification issued by the Governor’s Secretariat, Government of Karnataka, and subsequent approval by the Vice-Chancellor. With this appointment, he became the first Kodava to serve on the Academic Senate of VTU. In this capacity, he contributes to academic governance, curriculum and program review, faculty upskilling, mentoring initiatives, and the strengthening of academia–industry linkages.

Dr. Munjandira articulated Vision 2027 for the IEEE Bangalore Section, focusing on inclusive empowerment of members across Karnataka, strengthening bridges between academia and industry, supporting startups and MSMEs, promoting ethical and responsible innovation, recognizing academic and research excellence, and ensuring balanced growth across districts and subsections. In December 2025, he was elected Chair-Elect of the IEEE Bangalore Section, becoming the first Kodava to hold this position. His vision seeks to position the IEEE Bangalore Section as a global benchmark for technological collaboration, leadership, and societal impact.

Dr. Chengappa Munjandira is a co-inventor of the U.S. patent “Power Management for Virtualized RAN” (Patent No. 12,389,319), granted on 12 August 2025. The patent introduces a dynamic, context-aware power management architecture for virtualized radio access networks, enabling energy-efficient and scalable vRAN deployments. With this achievement, he became the first Kodava to be granted a U.S. patent on vRAN, marking a historic milestone for the Kodava community and underscoring its growing presence in global innovation and advanced technology research.
Humanitarian and outreach work
Through his role as Technology Lead for the IEEE MOVE Outreach India Emergency Response Program, Dr. Munjandira has led deployments of power, communication, and internet connectivity in disaster-affected regions.
