CONNECTING KODAVAS
In an attempt to trace the deeprooted tradition, culture, rituals and customs of the exotic Kodavas, a few individuals teamed up as “Connecting Kodavas®️” and ventured a
comprehensive study about the Kodava land and it’s socio cultural heritage. Dwelling in the hilly terrains of Kodagu, the Kodavas exhibit a unique tribal culture, follow a wide variety of customs and rituals and form a distinct ethnic race. Our practices and folklore are reflections of our rich legacy handed down to us by our forefathers. We adore ancestral worship and venerate our men of yester year “Gurukarona”. Miniature structures, Kaimada are built for such a purpose and annual offerings for the divine souls of our clansmen are paid. Each clan has an ancestral home called Ainmane or Mundhmane, a home that nestles the entire clan under a single household, binding the Kodavas as a joint family termed Okka. Each such clan resides in a particular village and has a history dating back to centuries of existence. Stories are told about the
attacks and annexations of various clans thus
diminishing our numbers. Eight hundred and forty eight Kodava families with a population of around one lakh fifty thousand is today dwindling in indomitable proportions. Our race is under a threat of extinction from both external forces as well as internal strife. The Connecting Kodavas ®️ wishes to probe into multidimensional aspects of the Kodavas about our historical sites including Kaimada and Ainmane and details of its history. We intend to unearth factual details of how a. family came into existence.we wish to identify
the lineage of the ancestors and their property holdings. The excellence of the family members in notable fields like defence, sports, politics and other achievements shall be recorded. The participation of the family members in the local village festivals in the form of “Thakkame” shall be noted. We shall conduct surveys and record first hand information by field visits as well as refer source materials including the original copy
of the Gazetteer, Pattolepalme and all the other available literature. We would like to revive the glory of our past and relive the present acknowledging the beauty and ardour of our community’s inheritances. We wish to enumerate historical facts and figures and derive exactness in our document. Family name, Pattedara and President’s details, the native village, address or location of the Kaimada and Ainmane, details of settlements in and out of Kodagu, family tree and history shall be included. Consolidation of
every facet of our identity is our motto and we
seek the support and cooperation of fellow
Kodavas in our concerted efforts to bring out a
comprehensive book. We pledge to protect
KODAVAAME.
