Clock Tower Virajpet

The Virajpet Town Municipal Corporation was fortunate to receive a gracious donation of land for the clock tower’s construction from Rao Bahadur Mukkatira  Aiyappa, a distinguished Kodava administrator from the Mukkatira family in Devanageri near Virajpet during the British Era. On February 5, 1914, Chief Commissioner Sir Hugh Daly laid the foundation stone, marking the beginning of an 11-month construction period. In January 1915, District Magistrate R. K. Ellis officially inaugurated the clock tower, a testament to the meticulous efforts invested. The historical significance is further highlighted by its inclusion on the first day cover of the Indian Postal Service. immortalizing its cultural and architectural importance.
