Cholanda W Poovaiah from Kodagu is a well known police officer who is serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, State Crime Record Bureau. He has been very instrumental in solving many murders, house breaking thefts, chain snatching, drug menace and curbed many terrorist activities that have enabled the people of the city to live without fear and have renewed faith in the police department. - When serving in BDA as a DySP, he has assisted in the recovery of nearly 250 crores worth government property from land grabbers in Bengaluru.

- In 1996, he assisted in successfully handling the volatile situation during the Miss World Pageant, for which he was awarded the Chief Minister’s medal in 1997.
- He was specially inducted into the team to investigate the case of the shoot-out at IISc. by Lashkar-e-Taiba, for which he brought laurels to the State by collecting crucial information and contributed to the investigations.
- After the ban of SIMI, he arrested the notorious all India secretary Ayaz Kamakutty Yahya in Bengaluru in 2008 – 2009.
- He was specially handpicked for the special task force, MM Hills, when the notorious Veerappan kidnapped ex-minister Nagappa.
- As part of a team along with the Assam police in Bengaluru, he arrested Manipuri extremist Ibungho Singh and Assam extremist Jewel Gorlosa in 2008 – 2009, for which he was widely acclaimed by the senior officers of Karnataka and Assam.
- He solved the sensational triple murder case of Prof. PL Sachdev, his wife and son in Bengaluru in 2009, by arresting the accused in West Bengal, by going undercover for two and a half months.
- He nabbed the African drug peddler, Pappajo and his associates, recovering cocaine and hashish in 2008 – 2009.
- He set a state record in Karnataka for recovering 50 stolen four wheelers, by nabbing interstate offender, Alex Rajan and gang.
- He also nabbed the interstate offender Karunakaran and gang, in connection with the 1.91 crore dacoity of an ATM van in RT Nagar, Bengaluru.
- He cracked down the counterfeit printing of notes which were being circulated in Bengaluru in 1999 – 2000, also recovering the machine in Akluj, Maharashtra by arresting Rajan, Haneef and Beerankutty.
- He obtained the major breakthrough in the serial bomb blast case of Bengaluru in 2008, conspired by culprits from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Oman and India, which earned him, in a very rare case, for the second time, another Chief Minister’s Medal in 2009.
- He has also solved many noteworthy cases like murders, house breaking thefts, chain snatchings, drug menace, theft, cheating, etc. and has been awarded many rewards and appreciations.
