Kolambale

Kolambale

Kolambale is referred to “Cobweb” in Kodava language.

About

Kolambale is a Kolamba‘s web which is usually covered with dust and dirt and is generally formed by home abandoned Kolamba, mainly by those of the species Theridiidae. These Kolamba look like a three dimensional twisted web structure and are sticky and are used for catching prey. They are found indoors usually in the corners of rooms, on the edges of the ceiling fan, sides of walls, etc. Kolamba produce Silk Strands for their eggs, for protection and also to travel. Over time when the dust accumulates on the web the Kolamba leaves it and builds a new one. Due to the thin strand, these cobwebs are not visible to insects and hence they get trapped in it. Kolamba which build these types of web are usually harmless to humans.

As we all are aware that we go through these dust strands in day to day life in pulling them and cleaning the corners every time.
