Batté Paat
Batté here refers to path/road . Kodavas sing Batté in many occasions , for instance while going to Manepaat ritual from Oor Mandh , Batté Paat is sung describing the beauty of walking path and surroundings, that includes meadows like Baané, waadé , while approaching the house , the song describes the Oani (gateway of the house ) , the kakkatt (side compound) , the bakka poaré (guard house) , patti (front yard) , kall boati ( a stone pillar in the yard ,used for tying cattle) , mott (stepping stones) , kattolé (door frame) , kayyalé (veranda of Kodava style house ), Nellaki Nadubaadé (sacred central hall ) , Mundh (courtyard), Nellaki (sacred wall ) etc . Similar song is sung while escorting relatives from Waadé to wedding house after Baalé Béngo ritual, while escorting groom from Gudda ( Bathroom) to the house, while escorting (Yethth poaraata) to temple, while escorting house owner and his belongings from old house to newly built house on the Manékooduva day ( House warming ceremony) . While the men sang this using traditional drum (Dhudi) , Kodava women folk sang same song using Thaala (cymbals), unfortunately women singing these songs has been extinct long ago . The tone and beat of Batté Paat is different from Baalopaats . Kodavas of Aelnaad region sing this song with a lengthier notes than the singers of rest of Kodagu.
