About

The songs starts by explaining how villagers met at Boatékaara Aiyappa temple to seek his blessings before going ahead to hunt down the tiger which has entered the village vicinity. It says there are 300 people with bows& arrows and guns. 500 people with hunting dogs . They go to a nearby hill called Choma Malae , in that hill they surround a dense forest grove called Paakaad Bana. The song says they surround it like a ring surrounding a finger and forms Kodavas’ traditional hunting pattern called “Bill Katto” ,( in this various positions of hunters are named as Neththi Bill, Onti Bill , Thaang Bill etc. The dogs will be cheered from the opposite side of these positions so , when the animal runs away from the dogs barking , it’ll be shot down at the other end ). Among the dogs ,the clever one is Bollu , when the dog Bollu barks , the Tiger who is sleeping under some fallen trees , between some thorn shrubs , wakes up and says to itself “Either I’ll be shot by a young hunter or I’ll remove jewels of some hunter’s wife (On the funeral day of husband wife doesn’t wear jewels) “. The Tiger goes racing towards the hunter grunting , a hunter called Ponnappa who is at the Neththi Bill position aims at Tiger, Ponnappa says to himself ‘ if his chest shakes while firing, he’ll pierce and tear his own chest, if his leg shakes he would cut his leg, if his hand shakes he would cut his own hand’. Then he takes the shot , the tiger gets hit , the tiger jumps with pain like it is touching the sky, when it falls down Ponnappa takes another shot, the Tiger dies. When other hunters hear double shots , they come running towards Neththi Bill position. Then the Tiger’s dead body is tied to a long pole and everybody carries it to Village Mandh , where Narimangala will be held in the presence of villagers , relatives .
