Journalist – Kodavas

Journalism played an important role in the development of political awareness, social reform and public life in Kodagu. In the early 20th century, Kodava journalists and writers helped create a public forum through which the people of Coorg could engage with issues affecting their society, economy and political future.

Kodagu — The First Newspaper of Kodagu

The most significant milestone in the history of journalism in Kodagu was the establishment of the weekly Kodagu, regarded as the first newspaper of Kodagu (Coorg).Maneyapanda Muthanna, president of the Coorg Zamindari Association, together with other office-bearers, took the initiative to establish the newspaper. The Government of India’s historical record states that the weekly Kodagu was launched in 1920. Other historical research records its first issue as having appeared on 3 June 1921, printed in Mysore and published from Madikeri.
