Bottolanda Ashitha Bopanna

Bottolanda Ashitha Bopanna was born on April 5th, in Gonikoppal, South Kodagu. She is a trained classical kodava singer presently residing in Bangalore.

Education: 

She completed  schooling from ST Thomas School, Gonikoppal, did her Pre University course from ST Anne’s PU college, Virajpet and pursued Engineering in Information Science from Coorg Institute of Technology, Ponnampet. She is currently working for Allstate, Bangalore and continuing to pursue singing as a passion.

Achievements & Awards:

She started singing from class 5. At first, she started training for light music under Sri.Chekkera Thyagaraj Appaiah. She has performed at Talakaveri , invocation for Chekkera Hockey cup, Biddatanda Hockey cup. She has performed for various cultural programs for Madikeri Akashavani, Chandana TV, and has also performed in the event – Madhura Madhuravee Manjula Gana conducted by Chandana TV. She has sung the title score for Kodava serial – Gejje Tande.

She later went on to train under Smt. Chendira Nirmala Bopanna for Carnatic classical junior singing, then trained under Sri.Bellary Venkatesh Achar and Smt.Vathsala Narayan for Carnatic classical senior singing.

As a high schooler and Pre University Student, she has secured first place in state level Pratibha Karanji competitions for Ghazal and Bhava Geethe for 3 consecutive years.

In the year 2006, she was part of the cultural delegation from Karnataka to Baltimore, USA to perform Kodava and Kannada songs at the AKKA( America Kannada Kootagala Agara)conference.

She has sung multiple Kodava songs for various Kodava CDs such as ‘Thelneer’, ‘Raagarasa’, ‘Gol Poyyana’ released by Karnataka Kodava Academy. She has also sung a couple of Kannada songs for the Kannada CD ‘Hoominchu’ released by Kala Sagara Academy.

She was invited by the Mumbai Kodava Association to perform at their annual event. As a resident of R T Nagar, Bangalore she has been regularly performing at Puthari, Kailpodh and various other events at Bangalore Kodava Samaj.

She has been awarded with titles such as ‘Chuppi Kogile’ by Bramhagiri, ‘Aralu Mallige’ by Kala Sagar Academy and honoured by Karnataka Sangha.
